Regeneration & Renewal

Last Updated (Friday, 04 February 2011 16:10)

Big changes are taking place at Science World. Our building is covered in scaffolding and our science centre is undergoing a $35 million renewal – the biggest in our history!

Science World is a charitable, non-profit organization with a mission to engage British Columbians in science and inspiring future science and technology leadership in our province. With your support, this incredible expansion will improve the Science World experience for visitors and members for years to come.

We're:

Expanding our exhibition and education space
So that you can be even more inspired in an additional 14,000 sq ft of gallery space, including views of False Creek. School groups will also benefit from new labs and programming space!

Expanding the lobby
For your added comfort when entering the building.

Developing a covered outdoor lunch area
So you can eat outside in the shade and even on drizzly days.

Making our building more environmentally sustainable
Because we care about the preservation of this historic icon and the environment.

Learn Even More

Does your curiosity get the best of you? Learn even more about what our renewal encompasses and why renovations are necessary, please download our Facility Renovation Presentation.

Fun Stuff!

We’ve been diligently recording our demolition and construction process because we find it fascinating! If you find construction pretty cool, click the links below to discover more about what goes into it!

  • Visit our Flickr page to see photos of the renewal as it progresses!
  • Did you know our dome lives on a deck? It’s true! Take a peek underneath.
  • Roofs are made up of layers of different things, kind of like lasagna. Discover the anatomy of our old roof.
  • A renovation of this size is composed of many seemingly little tasks. View some of the most recent pieces of the renovation puzzle.

Help us complete this exciting renovation. You can donate online today at www.scienceworld.ca/donate or phone 604-443-7483 for more information.
