From all the ads for antibacterial soaps and sprays, you'd think bacteria were the Antichrist. Sure, some of them make you sick, but countless others do some marvelous things. Bacteria are being used to mine gold, eat oil and fight malaria. The niftiest I've come across lately is generate electricity for fuel cells. Geobacter can grab electrons from metals. Derek Lovley has been working on using this ability for various applications.
