Code Along: Scratch Chase Game

Join Science World educators and teachers across BC for weekly sessions about STEAM learning and teaching. These sessions are typically attended by teachers looking for their own individualised learning opportunities and consist of teachers from a variety of school districts.

Code-Along sessions focus on helping educators to develop confidence using a particular coding platform. We guide you through a step-by-step grade-appropriate activity (as if you were the student) to showcase a fun way you could use the platform with your students.

In this session we will code a chase game in Scratch. You can see a working example here. By exploring different events, conditional statements, movement, and variables we will create a game that will have a user controlled sprite with the goal of "catching" a second sprite randomly moving around the page; the learner will gain points for successfully catching the second sprite and the game will end when a reach a pre-determined is reached.

Please join the session on a computer to make use of all the features.

This session is intended as a professional development opportunity for educators. We will be hosting it on Zoom. Meeting details will be emailed 2 hours prior to the event.

This program is a part of Tech-Up, Science World's initiative to enhance existing programs to include coding and computational thinking.
