Girls and STEAM: Marine Conservation

Dive into marine conservation and design your own protest signs with marine scientist, Mckenzie Margarethe.

About this event

Explore marine conservation with Science World and marine scientist, Mckenzie Margarethe (a.k.a @mckensea on TikTok)!

Together, we’ll talk about corporate responsibility and the effect that greenhouse gases have on our oceans and climate, and then build our own protest signs. Come prepared with materials to write, draw, and decorate your sign with! We encourage you to use found pieces around your home to recycle what we have.

While the terms "women" and "girls" are used in our event, Girls and STEAM invites participants and mentors who identify as women, girls, trans, genderqueer, non-binary, two-spirit, and gender questioning.

The event will begin with an interactive presentation from McKenzie, followed by a sign building activity.

Featured guest:

McKenzie Margarethe is a queer marine scientist and science communicator who grew up in Hawai’i and attended Chaminade University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in forensic science and a minor in chemistry.

McKenzie worked in the marine field during their undergraduate and post-graduate studies and has continued that path for the last 8 years. McKenzie is currently doing marine naturalist work and communicates marine science online.
