Girls and STEAM Mentor Café: Secret Identity

A networking event from Science World for youth to explore STEAM careers.

About this event

What do an ultra-marathon runner, a DJ and a contortionist all have in common? They are all STEAM professionals you get to network with at Science World’s next Girls and STEAM Mentor Café!

Join us on August 21 to learn about the inspiring and wonderful ways STEAM professionals balance their careers with dynamic hobbies and side gigs. This exploration of “secret Identities” will connect students with women who are making incredible contributions to the world of STEAM, like-minded peers, and discover how you can embrace every part of yourself no matter your career choice.

While the terms "women" and "girls" are used in our event, Girls and STEAM invites participants and mentors who identify as women, girls, trans, genderqueer, non-binary, two-spirit, and gender questioning.

The event will begin with an introduction of our mentors, followed by three breakout rooms where participants can network with each mentor.

Program:

11-11:10am: Introduction of the mentors

11:10-11:25am: Networking Breakout Session #1

11:25-11:40am: Networking Breakout Session #2

11:40-11:55am: Networking Breakout Session #3

11:55am-12:00pm: Closing remarks

Mentors from the following industries will be a part of our panel and breakout discussions: Computer Sciences, Dentistry, Forensic Anthropology, Chemistry, and Registered Massage Therapy.

Accessibility:

  • Closed captioning and Sign language translation will be available.
  • We strive to make our events accessible and enjoyable for everyone. If you have an accommodation request not listed above, please let us know in your registration form or contact Madelyn Osborne at [email protected] or 604.443.7496.
