On The Road at AME Discovery Day

Join Science World On The Road and explore the world beneath you at Discovery Day, a free, family-fun experience!

Experience mineral exploration and mining and the technology that makes it possible in a hands-on, interactive day of learning, getting kids excited about STEM in BC. Bring the whole family to Discovery Day, hosted by the Association for Mineral Exploration (AME), on Sunday, January 25, 2026 from 10am – 2pm at the Vancouver Convention Centre East (999 Canada Place, Vancouver BC V6C 3C1).

Explore exhibits from leading organizations like Science World, Below BC, Britannia Mine Museum, SFU Earth Sciences Lab, UBC Geering Up, BCIT Mineral Exploration and Mining Program and Women in Mining BC.

Explore BC’s fascinating world of minerals and mining with interactive, hands-on exhibits for all ages.

  • Visit the Science World booth for fun activities.
  • Explore a remote mineral exploration camp with Equity Exploration.
  • VR mine modeling showcasing cutting-edge technology in mineral exploration with VRIFY.
  • Interactive activities featuring electric currents and magnetic fields.
  • Pan for gold with Yukon Dan, a world champion gold panner.
  • Explore ancient fossils, touch billion-year-old rocks, and see tech-driven innovations in action!

Free family fun for everyone, including:

  • Face painting, balloon twisting, stickers, and colouring sheets.
  • Enjoy complimentary coffee and tea with tasty treats like popcorn and cotton candy.
  • Meet mascots Buddy and Betty the Miners and Spike from Vancouver Whitecaps FC!

Recommended for ages 4–12, but fun for all! Event registration is not required.


Science World’s fantastic On The Road program brings fun, high-energy live demonstrations and activities to communities all around the province that pique science curiosity, boost science literacy and inspire future science and technology leaders.
