SWEET: Faculty Faceoff

For Youth 13–18.

Join us at Science World on Valentine’s Day for our next FREE Science World Extravagant Evening for Teens (SWEET), and experience some friendly competition between post-secondary institutions!

Make liquid nitrogen ice cream, and carry out experiments and demonstrations in psychology, physics, chemistry, kinesiology and more! Galleries will be open to explore!

Featuring:

Over 10 guest exhibitors and presenters from UBC, Langara, KPU, Vancouver Community College, Douglas College, BCIT, Genome BC and Science World’s Future Science Leaders!

A live demo-off with demos presented by:

  • Langara Department of Chemistry
  • Douglas College Department of Physics and Astronomy
  • UBC Sensorimotor Lab at the School of Kinesiology

This year, the guest presenters will be challenged to create Valentine’s Day-themed demonstrations, so don’t miss out!

Science World's Teen Advisory Group will determine the winning presenters of the following categories:

  • Highest Audience Engagement
  • Clearest Communicator
  • Weirdest Idea
  • Biggest “Wow!”
  • Future Thinker (most innovative/potential to be the biggest asset to society in the future)
  • Best Dressed Presenter(s)
  • Most Relevant (to everyday life)
  • Most Timely (closest to five minutes exactly)
  • Most Topical (Valentine's Day special)
  • People’s choice (you decide!)

Bring a friend and get to know your dream college or university through hands-on experiences with science, technology, engineering, art, design and mathematics, while earning raffles for a chance to win amazing prizes! Grand prize: TWO passes to Science World!

6pm—Explore post-secondary booths
6:30pm—Welcome Show at the Peter Brown Family Stage
6:45pm—Explore post-secondary booths and amazing galleries
7:20pm—LIVE Post-Secondary demo-off at the Peter Brown Family Stage
8:45pm—Closing Show (win prizes!) at the Peter Brown Family Stage
9pm—Event ends
