SOCCER & TECHNOLOGY FROM THE FIFA MUSEUM

Game-Changing Science

Soccer & Technology from the FIFA Museum, presented in partnership with the Province of British Columbia, makes its North American debut right here in Vancouver.

This new exhibition takes visitors behind the scenes of the beautiful game, showing how innovation has shaped its evolution. Visitors will discover the role of technology in soccer today through five distinct zones:

Broadcasting and Media

Much has changed since 1954, when the first televised FIFA World Cup™ took place in Switzerland. Today, high-speed cameras and wearable sensors help us get closer to the game than ever before.

Goal: Snap a selfie next to the actual camera used at the 1954 FIFA World Cup.

Intelligent Data

Each professional soccer match generates millions of data points, providing additional insight into performance and supporting coaches, players, and federations to make informed decisions. Learn how the official match ball for the FIFA World Cup 26™ — the adidas Trionda — features a new layer that holds a motion sensor designed to link the action on the pitch with data collection.

Handball! Get up close and personal with the Connected Ball Technology inside the adidas Trionda.

Refereeing and Fair Play

Tools such as video assistant referee (VAR), goal-line technology and communication systems support referees and contribute to accuracy and transparency.

Instant replay: Step up to the field-side monitor used in the Referee Review Area (RRA) at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ and make the call.

Staging the Game

From calling in turfgrass experts to installing the right floodlights, there’s a lot that goes into putting on the world’s most-watched sporting event.

Can you ‘pitch’ different playing surfaces against each other to see which one wins?

Innovation Lab

How does an idea move from concept to reality? Pull back the curtain on FIFA’s development process for supporting new technologies.

Wildcard: Submit your own ideas to FIFA!

So, whether you’re a lifelong soccer fan or simply fascinated by the science, this feature exhibition will shine a spotlight on parts of the game we don’t often see. Score!

Extra time?

Don’t miss the chance to stand in the presence of sporting glory. For its North American debut, this exhibition will feature highlights from host nations including:

  • The jersey worn by Christine Sinclair during Canada’s first Olympic gold-medal-winning game against Sweden at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
  • The match ball from Canada's clash with Croatia at the FIFA World Cup 2022™, in which Alphonso Davies netted the country's first-ever men's World Cup goal.
  • The jersey for captain Atiba Hutchinson, for Canada’s opening match against Belgium at the FIFA World Cup 2022™.
