Field Science Camps: Explore Science Outdoors

Because Science Happens Outside

Step outside into the field that surrounds Science World. Campers become field scientists as they investigate ecosystems, observe, explore, and make connections in the natural world.

A Day at Field Science Camp

Campers wont just experience our natural world, but deepen their understanding of it.

Outdoor Adventure

Spend about half the day investigating the natural world.

Indoor Labs

Head back to the dome to participate in hands-on activities

Place-based

Explore and learn directly from the local environment.

Eco-Investigations

Test water samples or study creatures & habitats.

Get Hands On

Magnifiers, test kits, binoculars, and more.

Observe & Record

Record observations in their own field notebook.

Adventure Close to Home

Science World’s unique location on False Creek makes it the perfect launch pad for field science.

During Field Science Camp, campers might explore…

  • The Ken Spencer Science Park
  • Nearby urban green spaces and shoreline habitats
  • The natural ecosystems surrounding False Creek
  • Local points of interest
  • Opportunity to go on an off-site field trip with BC Hydro

With expert educators guiding the way, every day becomes an investigation.

Field Science FAQS

Do campers need to bring their own lunch?

Yes! Please pack a nut-free lunch, snacks, and water. We cannot supervise food concession purchases and ask that our campers not bring money to purchase food or snacks.

What should campers wear or bring for outdoor weather?

Campers spend approximately half of each day outside, so we encourage dressing in layers and being prepared for changing conditions. On rainy days, waterproof jackets and boots are a must. We recommend closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, a hat, and an extra change of clothes tucked in their bag—field science can get messy!

Is the camp accessible for campers with different needs?

We are committed to making our camp a welcoming experience for all campers. If your child has accessibility requirements or anything else we should be aware of, please email us first at [email protected]. We greatly appreciate the disclosure of this information at or before the time of registration so we can ensure we have the resources to provide the level of care needed to give the best experience to your child.

Can my child attend both the In-Dome Science Camp and the Field Science Camp?

Absolutely! The two programs are designed with different curricula, so there is no overlap in content. Campers are welcome to register for one of each. Each program runs on its own weekly schedule, so your child would attend one per week.

Is early pick-up possible during the camp day?

Early pick-up can be arranged, but we ask that you communicate with our team in advance whenever possible. Because the group may be off-site during parts of the day, we cannot guarantee your camper will be at Science World at any given time. A full daily itinerary will be shared with families ahead of time so you can plan accordingly. If you anticipate needing frequent early pick-up, our in-dome camps may be a better fit for your schedule.

It's Vancouver… What if it rains?

Our camp runs rain or shine. If there is heavy rain or stormy weather, we move to an indoor program with pre-planned hands-on backup activities.
