The Community Science Celebration will include eye-popping science shows, demonstrations, challenges and an opportunity to meet people in your community doing cool science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) every day.

In celebration of Science Literacy Week, PHD Comics creator Jorge Cham and particle physicist Daniel Whiteson team up to explain everything we don't know about the Universe, from Cosmic Rays and Dark Matter to time travel and the Big Bang. Presented in partnership with TRIUMF and Vancouver Public Library at the Central Branch.

Growing food in a sustainable way means adopting practices that produce more with less, use natural resources wisely and reduce food losses. Join us along with local organizations concerned with food security as we explore the food cycle, food rescue and minimizing food waste with hands-on activities, interactive demonstrations, and information sharing.

First responders are an important and integral part of every community. Join BC paramedics, Vancouver police, Transit police and Heavy Urban Search and Rescue on Saturday along with the Canadian Border Services Agency and Vancouver firefighters on Sunday as they showcase who our first responders are, what they do, the technology they use and the role that science plays in their work. Explore emergency technology inside and emergency response vehicles outside the building.
