Keynote Speaker - Dr. Farah Alibay
Many kids dream of becoming astronauts. But how do people actually end up working in space exploration?
In this inspiring keynote, aerospace engineer Dr. Farah Alibay shares her journey as the daughter of immigrants who grew up in a small Quebec town, where a career in space exploration once seemed impossible.
From studying at the University of Cambridge and MIT to her current work on robotic missions that explore the solar system, Dr. Alibay will reflect on the challenges she’s faced as a woman in a male-dominated field. She’ll share career highlights and lessons in curiosity, teamwork, and perseverance that helped her through the toughest moments to reach incredible heights.
Her biggest message? Even if you’re not literally aiming for the stars, following your passion means the sky isn’t the limit—it’s just the beginning.
Dr. Farah Alibay: Aerospace Engineer

Growing up in a small Quebec town, Farah Alibay never imagined she’d work in space exploration, but watching Apollo 13 at age eight sparked her lifelong love. After studying Aeronautical Engineering at Cambridge and earning her Ph.D at MIT in Aerospace Engineering, Farah joined the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where she has helped design and operate missions to Mars, including the Perseverance rover, the Ingenuity helicopter, the MarCo Cube Sats and the Insight Mars Lander.
Today, she leads the payload systems engineering for the VERITAS mission, a satellite that will explore Venus.
As a passionate science communicator, she champions diversity in STEM for women and minorities, as well as supporting young women through mentorship as a Big Sister. When she’s not advancing space exploration, you’ll find her exploring the mountains through hiking, rock climbing, or mountaineering here on Earth.
Registration for this event sells out every year, so make sure to sign up as soon as you can to get your spot! Please note that registration for the Girls and STEAM Summit is not yet open.
