Get ready for a Bioblitz – Nature Spotting at Science World!
From May 22 to June 5, 2025 (aptly timed from World Biodiversity Day to World Environmental Health Day!) immerse yourself in nature and contribute to Science World's first Bioblitz!
What’s a Bioblitz?
A Bioblitz is a coordinated event where people work together to inventory and document the variety of life we find in a specific place—like Science World or your community!
You’ll help track all the varieties of life which call outdoor spaces home, for example at the Ken Spencer Science Park, the Environmental Trail, or in your own backyard.

Why Join a Bioblitz?
By participating in this Bioblitz, you’re helping build the world’s largest online, open-access database for scientists. The data collected during this event helps scientists understand migration patterns, monitor species populations and identify areas that need protection.
It’s also a great opportunity to check out all corners around Science World, notice the diversity of nature around you, and contribute valuable data to global conservation efforts.
How to Get Involved
- Join the Project: Visit our iNaturalist project page and click “Join”
- Download the App(s): Open up Seek by iNaturalist or the iNaturalist app to take photos of the animals, plants, and fungi you see. Unsure where the boundary is? Check out the map of where observations count.
- Explore & Record Observations: From May 22 to June 5, explore all corners of Science World (on the Vancouver Seawall, our observation deck, or in our Science Park) and start making observations!
Can’t Make it to The Dome?
You don’t need to be at Science World during the Bioblitz. You can also participate by identifying the species others record. You’re helping play a crucial role bringing observations from casual to research grade.
We can’t wait to see what nature you discover—or help identify!
