Tech-up Showcase presented by Amazon Future Engineer

Join us on Friday, September 19, for free admission to Science World for the Tech-Up Showcase presented by Amazon Future Engineer.

The Tech-Up Showcase focuses on making STEAM subjects—science, technology, engineering, art & design, and math—accessible to everyone, regardless of age or experience.

The event will take place from 9:30 am to 5pm. Entry is granted on a first-come, first-served basis, so we recommend arriving early to fully enjoy the day's activities

We look forward to seeing you for a full day of discovery!

Note: This event will make it extra lively at Science World! Some galleries and activities may have capacity limits or waitlists, and re-entry into the building is not permitted. Thanks for your patience—we promise it’s worth it.

Tech-Up 2025 Schedule of Events

Hands-on coding and robotics:

  • Robot Mice: Visitors will code Robot Mice to successfully navigate a maze to get to the cheese! (Recommended for ages 4 – 9)
  • Roving Robots: Visitors will be given the opportunity to code remote controls for our Roving Finch Robots so that they can drive them around and explore unknown regions. (Recommended for ages 10+)
  • Amazon Robot: visitors will learn about the practical applications of robotics by viewing up-close an Amazon Hercules Robot, a powerful machine capable of handling heavy loads up to 1,000 pounds in Amazon fulfilment centres.
  • “Your Voice is Power” drop-in activities and in-depth workshops combining music and tech for social justice, led by Taking It Global. Guests will have the opportunity to participate in quick coding activities with the option to dive deeper into coding basics through music remixing and engaging discussions on the Indigenous experience in Canada.
  • FIRST LEGO® League (FLL): Visitors can experience an international robotics competition with hands-on LEGO® Education programmable robots. Kids will be able to complete simple missions on the FLL Into Orbit themed field set and learn how to get involved in the BC Provincial competition
  • Kids4Tech: Families can experience Mastercard’s global STEM education program designed to inspire students through interactive, inquiry-based activities focused on topics such as Algorithms and All Things Digital. Join the team at Science World and experience the program that connects real-world challenges to STEM careers, empowering the next generation of problem solvers and innovators.

Performance:

  • Special drumming performance at 1:20 by: Yellow Bear Nakota, aka "YB Nakota", a traditional Sioux singer from Paul's First Nation in Treaty 6 Territory. He hopes to uplift others through his songs and sharing his story.

With so much excitement happening, some galleries and activities may have waitlists. We appreciate your patience as we make sure everyone gets a chance to enjoy the fun.
