Go on an Animation Adventure With Molly of Denali

Science World’s award-winning Creative Technology Gallery, developed in partnership with DigiBC and co-presented by RBC and Beedie, is proud to present its second exhibition—Animation Adventure with Molly of Denaliopening October 10, 2025. Step into the world of animation: take part in creating your own storyboards and effects and watch how it can come to life on display.

Inspired by the acclaimed animated series Molly of Denali, produced by GBH Kids and Vancouver studio Atomic Cartoons, this exhibition invites guests to step into the magical world of animation, guided by the series' spirited heroine, 10-year old Molly Mabray.  The exhibition pulls back the curtain on the role of a creative technologist, from early storyboards to dazzling final effects, all while celebrating the Alaska Native values, culture and language that inspired the show.

The featured episode, “Light Up the Night,” follows Molly and her friends as they navigate the triumphs and stumbles of learning something new—learning a tricky skating move they call the the ‘backwards-spinny-turny thing.’ Alongside their journey, visitors will discover how animation is crafted, from early storyboarding concepts to post-production, and hear insights from the creators themselves.

Experience the exhibition in person for the full adventure—or read on to learn more.

Room 1: Dream

Step into the first room, Dream, inspired by the majestic beauty of Mount Denali and a cozy Alaskan home. Here, visitors are welcome into the fictional town of Qyah, where Molly of Denali is set. Explore Alaska Native Values such as “all things are connected” through rustic postcards, immerse yourself in the breathtaking landscape and vibrant community, and meet Molly’s friends along with the Denali Trading Post.

Room 2: Build

In Build, you become the animator. Bring Molly’s world to life at three interactive kiosks that guide you through the stages of animation—Storyboard & Timing, Animation, and FX and Compositing (the post-production process that ties it all together). Dive deeper into the craft with Developer Diaries, where the show’s creators share insights into the artistry and storytelling behind Molly of Denali.

Room 3: Play

The final room, Play, places you inside the magical closing scene of “Light Up The Night.” Surrounded by a fully immersive 360-degree projection of the Northern Lights, experience the Alaskan sky as it shifts from glowing sunset to starlit night. Skate across colourful snowball hot spots that explode into dazzling bursts of lights, then pause to take in the moment as delicate snowflakes drift around you. It’s an unforgettable mix of energy and serenity, and a chance to step directly into Molly’s animated world.
