Each 1 to 2-hour workshop offers a blend of fundamental concepts, cross-curricular activities, and an abundance of resources. These workshops are designed for teacher professional development, school-based professional development, and district conferences.
All workshops are free of charge. Thank you to our partners Amazon, Mastercard, CIRA, and the Government of Canada for providing teachers and educators in the province of BC the opportunity to learn to code and code to learn.
Making coding accessible for all by using simple step-by-step instructions (algorithms) to communicate with others. Separating everyday activities like learning a dance, to retelling a story, to following a recipe into computational thinking! Join us for this hands-on workshop and explore a variety of coding activities without any technology. A cross-curricular approach with infinite opportunities!
This workshop is offered virtually and in person.
Explore computational thinking as an effective way to solve math equations! Participants will have the opportunity to plan open-ended math problems which are relevant to students’ lived experiences. From graphing the popularity of memes, to the trending TikTok dances, to newly released video games, you will Scratch your way to greater mathematical fluency and higher student engagement.
This workshop is offered virtually and in person.
What is digital literacy? It is a means by which we filter and analyze information around us. Participants will explore digital literacy by reflecting on how technology and media can colour our understanding of the world. Learn to teach students to find effective, safe, and inclusive methods to search for information in the digital age today.
This workshop is offered virtually and in person.
Use all of Edison’s capabilities to explore the world! Learn to barcode and block-code with Edison’s many coding languages. Teach Edison to perform actions like sumo wrestle, clap to the finish line, and dance to your favourite song. Many interactive cross-curricular lesson opportunities are available to take back and use in your classroom!
This workshop is only offered in person.
Blast your way into next level coding with micro:bits, using its pins to create an electrical circuit game and the accelerometer sensor to play Rock, Paper, Scissors. Take sensors to a whole new level! Join us for this cross-curricular, live data streaming experience!
