Inspired by the SyFy network film Sharknado, we here at Science World were curious about what the actual turbulent properties of a shark in a tornado would look like. Luckily we have access to a tornado generating exhibit!
We tried hanging the shark at several different heights and angles and found that it did not disrupt the tornado nearly as much as we had expected. The fog pattern behind the shark showed some additional spiraling areas (apparently caused by the fins) but the whole thing remained remarkably symmetrical.
No actual sharks were harmed in the making of this experiment.
