Helping Nerds See Themselves in a STEAM Future

Girls and STEAM, presented by STEMCELL Technologies, is creating a nerdier future by encouraging girls* ages 12-14 to pursue their scientific interests. Science World helps young minds explore potential career fields by expanding their knowledge of and access to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art & design, and math) opportunities.

As part of Science World’s Science for All strategy, we are actively breaking down barriers to STEAM for underrepresented groups — which includes women and girls. Girls and STEAM provides a range of different opportunities throughout the year — from livestreams reaching schools all over the province and beyond, intimate in-person studio sessions with local STEAM professionals, to our annual Summit celebration.

*This inclusive program welcomes participants and mentors of many gender identities – whether you identify as a girl, trans, genderqueer, non-binary, Two-Spirit, or gender questioning.

Get Inspired with Year Round Events!

Summit

The Girls and STEAM Summit is our most exciting event of the year! This event brings together 300 participants for a day of hands-on learning, exploring and discovery.

Participants take part in a number of different activities including a mentor café, hands-on
workshops, industry showcase, and an amazing keynote speaker. Registration for this event
sells out every year, so make sure to sign up as soon as you can to hear about upcoming
events!

Studios

These in-person events bring together the most popular sessions of the Girls and STEAM Summit, our interactive workshops!

Join us for an exhilarating morning of hands-on learning. These studio sessions give you the chance to work alongside experienced STEAM professionals and try your hand at all sorts of different activities.

Each Studio will consist of two different sessions, and you’ll get a chance to try both of them! This event is exclusively for participants ages 12-14 years old.

Livestreams

Find out about STEAM careers and speak to professionals, no matter where you are! We
host online livestreams events throughout the year so that everyone can engage and get
involved with Girls and STEAM.

These are opportunities for both individuals and school groups to join in. Whilst there are
no age restrictions on who can join these livestreamed sessions, they are most appropriate
for those in Grades 6 to 8.

Community Partners

Are you someone, or someone from a local organization, in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Design, Math) looking to pay it forward? Then consider partnering with Girls and STEAM, where you’ll get the chance to help girls* between 12 – 14 explore potential careers in STEAM! We’re always looking for partners to help host a workshop, exhibit a showcase booth, or mentor our wonderful participants. We’re open to your ideas, too.
